It's all in the mind, you know

Hello my reader! Today the topic is free, so I’m going to talk about my favourite movie: Yellow Submarine (1968) by George Dunning. This movie was released in the middle of the psychedelic pop culture of the 1960s with the very special design by Heinz Edelmann and the incredible songs by The Beatles.

Basically, the plot of the movie consists in that The Beatles must save a place called Pepperland and to restore the order with music and love. The Beatles must “fight” with the Blue Meanies –they’re music-hating-, who come over the land under a surprise attack. The Blue Meanies make the inhabitants immobile like statues throwing big green apples upon them and take away the colours of Pepperland. A character called Old Fred is sent to seek help, for which he travels in the yellow submarine until to arrive to London. In London, he meets with The Beatles and the five characters travel back to Pepperland going across different seas: Sea of Time, Sea of Science, Sea of Monsters, Sea of Nothing –here, The Beatles meet a singular character called Jeremy-, Foothills of the Headlands and finally the Sea of Holes until to arrive to Pepperland. The Beatles must supplant to the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and to fight –in a particular way- with the Blue Meanies. If I continue telling this story, it’ll lose its magic. I invite you to watch this movie if you want to know what happen in detail and of course, to appreciate the special magic that it has (design and music specially)

If you want a motivation, this movie (animated musical film) is unique in its kind because all the ohter animated movies are similar, but Yellow Submarine is different. Briefly, this movie is highly recommended. The songs that appear are: Yellow Submarine, Eleanor Rigby, All Together Now, When I’m Sixty-Four, Only a Northern Song, Nowhere Man, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, All You Need Is Love, Hey Bulldog and other songs. If you want to watch this movie but you haven’t the movie, there’re pages in Internet that allow you to watch this movie online or download it.

Green conscience

Hello my reader. Today I talk about a very important issue: Environment and its protection, in special, that I think is the most important of all. What it will be? Read and discover it.
I think that the environment protection is a job of all people that it should be promoted principally by the government through plans and projects that are focused to change the mind of the chilean people on this subject, but you know this isn’t there.
In Santiago, the city that I live all the year, there are areas that promote this “green  conscience” through parks, cycle paths, organic food, buildings environmentally friendly (reduction of carbon footprint),  using alternative energy sources, using products that are friendly with nature, saving energy to use devices that consume less energy and so on. The things that I, you and all of us can do it is longer than this.
The problem is that this things and the people that do it, are preferably located in the towns (municipalities) with more economic resources –in the east zone of the Santiago- in contrast to towns of south zone. This is shown when we found cycle paths or organic gardens.
But I want to focus in the mind of the chilean people. Everyone speaks about environment, protection, alternative energy and so on. However, the majority don’t make anything, they’re only beautiful words that the wind takes. I think that the real change involves a deep change in our minds. This change begins at the elementary schools and at home. Each day there are many places, fairs and similar –really there aren’t a lot- that the people don’t take advantage of this opportunities. Is useless to promote this things if the people isn’t interested in this, if everyone of us says: “it doesn’t matter” The first step is change our minds and thinking about the environment and its protection and care. All of us must consider to the environmet like a part of us that needs care and attention.

Do you think the same?

Picture yourself in a boat on a river...

Hello my reader.

Today I talk about one of my favorite songs. Yes, you’ll say that this topic is repeated and very boring, but in this opportunity is different. I had spoken about this before, if you remember in that occasion I spoke about the song “Help!” Then, to follow in the topic, today I’ll write about another song by The Beatles, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. Can you see the difference? The same topic with the same musicians but the song is different. Let’s go my reader; you won’t regret to read this post. I promise.
This song is much known because is very special both its music (chords, lyrics and similar) and the feelings that it’s evoke. In my case, this song helps me to write my stories –I like to write stories and novels like the song “Paperback writer”- and every time that I listen it, I feel like if I travel to another world, a world of pure imagination where dreams come true and the things that seem impossible are possible. I imagine beautiful scenes that I write in my stories later. An example is to think about the “leocornio” (an imaginary animal that looks like a lion but it has a horn of unicorn in its forehead) and its ability for running longer distances and even, running over the deep water (see, ocean).

I like a whole song, in special the strophe number three:

“Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain,
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies.
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.”

I imagine this strophe like an invitation to travel to this world and don’t worry about problems, just go for a walk or flying or what you want (really, the whole song is a travel)
I suppose that you think other things about this song, but you know that each person can think what want and I respect all opinions. I don’t like judge.

What you think about this? I post the link of the song:

PS: The link is from movie "Yellow Submarine", but i like the animation and the interpretation of this song.

Physical Anthropology is alive!

Hello my reader!
Today I talk about an interesting discovery published on 10 Feb 2010 in the journal Nature and titled “Graphic: Inuk, ancient man resurrected from DNA in hair” because I’m interested in Physical Anthropology and I think that this article is interesting if you like this area of Anthropology in general.
Basically the article is about the discovery of scientists, who have reconstructed the physical characteristics and lifestyle of a young man they have called “Inuk” (in the local language means man or human). These scientists work at Centre of Excellence in GeoGenetics at the Natural History Museum (Copenhagen) and how I’ve talked to you before, they reconstructed lifestyle and physical characteristics of a young man in the Arctic permafrost some 4.000 years ago.
The man was part of the Saqqab culture. This culture is the first known to inhabitant Greenland. What has been found is the Inuk’s hair in the Qeqertasussuk region (Greenland) Analysis of his hair allowed to compare his genome with nearby populations. Scientists discovered that Inuk was most closely related to the people of eastern Siberia, rather than closer tribes in North America. Then, this is important because it’s related with migration points across the Bering Strait from Siberia to North America.

And, what did scientists discover exactly?
Genetic analysis of the Inuk’s hair concluded that this man was a young man with dark skin, brown eyes, and shovel-shaped teeth well adapted to life in a cold climate. Other characteristics are his blood group as A+; this man has a high probability of going bald and the dry consistence of his earwax. Moreover, other test suggest the man survived on a marine diet (hunting seals and seabirds)
So, if you think that Physical Anthropology has not utility, I’ve given you an example yet. I hope that you have read very interested and you’ve liked  this article. The link is below.

PS: the first photo is Qeqertasussuk, Greenland and the second is a possible appearance of Inuk.

Help! I need somebody...

Hello my reader! Today I talk about a very special song for me: "Help!" by The Beatles. This song is one of my favorite songs in English -of course, I have a lot of "favorite songs" in this language, in special about The Beatles- I love it with lyrics and melody, in fact when I finish this term, I'll learn how to play this song in guitar because I can play at the moment "Eight days a week", "Please Mr. Postman" and "I want to hold your hand"

Perhaps you think that this Rock song is very simple and maybe boring (lyrics and/or melody) if it's compared with genres like Metal, Hard Rock, Folk or anything, but I think that this song is an icon of the Rock music. I suppose that everyone have listen this song something. I don't get angry if you hate this song, I respect all opinions -in taste there isn't any said, you know.

Every time that I listen this song, I feel a special energy that gives me more force and encouragement to realize my job more pleasant and light. When I'm home, my sister and me sing this song -we aren't the best singers but we do it with enthusiasm and this is important- and if we continue singing, someday we’ll do it perfectly (practice makes the master)
If you haven’t listen this song yet. I put a link for this purpose. I hope that you enjoy it.

England: A very interesting place to visit

Hello again! Today I talk about a place that I'd like to visit: England. Why this place you'll wonder? Well, I'd like to visit this place because I want to know London, other cities and of course, Liverpool, The Beatles' birthplace (it could sound like an "extreme fanaticism" but I'm so happy thinking about this idea.)

All I know about England is about its interesting museums, nice parks, and amazing places like palaces, its extensive subway and other similar things. But I also know about its climate, a bit of its geography and history (for example the legend of King Arthur)
If I go to England, I'd visit in first place, the museums and parks. Then I'd visit important buildings (like La Moneda Palace in Chile) and I'd like to visit National Parks and similar. But the most important thing that I'd do is to sail across the River Thames -River Mapocho could be navigable like River Thames, do you think the same? Apart from this, I'd like to go to Liverpool because I want to know the "origin" of The Beatles and the places that they used as inspiration to create their songs and movies.
In the future, I'd like to stay a season in England studying a postgrade about my career and improving my spoken English, but I don't know if I'd like to live in England because I'd have to know the reality of this country, moreover, I like Chile and I don't know if I could be far of my country. Perhaps I change my opinion and I'll live in England or, who knows, in other country. When the time has come, I'll choose some option but this isn't mean that I won't travel to other places. In fact, since that I was younger so much younger than today, I've ever wanted to travel to very different places.

Avelinda: Free as a bird

Hello, hello! Today I invite you to read my blog because I'm going to write a special issue: A cat called "Avelinda" (it's three-years cat) You can think that this issue is stupid or bored or not interesting for you, but if you read it you'll discover that this topic is very singular. I invite you to read my blog, you won't regret, I promise (the cat in the picture is Avelinda)

When I was younger so much younger than today Avelinda (it's called Avi too) arrived to my house in summer (January), 2008. It's yellow with orange lines across its body except its paws, which are white like if Avi wears white gloves, and its breast, which is white. Its nose is pink (pale pink), its big eyes are yellow like two amber stones and it has a long white whiskers. Avi is very friendly (even with strange people), nice, lovely, observer, careful, prudent, ticklish and smart with a unique preferences. Whenever I whistle, Avi runs to me meowing as if it would want to ask me "What's happen now?".

Avi sleeps with me all the year. When it's hot, Avi enters to my house at nights but if it's cold Avi is sleeping all the day inside my house in different parts like the sofa, armchairs, beds, etc.  Avi has a favourite place: the kitchen. Every time that somebody is cooking something in the kitchen, Avi is sitting on the bench looking to the person for that this one gives something food to Avi, then Avi will answer with a noisy miaow or a loud purring.

However, the Avi's strange thing is its peculiar sense of taste because it doesn't eat only cat food, milk, flesh, meat or something, but it eats vegetables and sweet things! These things are bread, tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, pumpkin, chestnut, rice, pastas, corn, beets, avocado, carrots, cakes, pies, jams and similars, but Avi loves the chocolate made by my mom, specially if the chocolate is made when it's cold or when it's late (at night) Avi never gets tired of eating chocolate; while it eats more, more noisy is its miaow and its purring.

Avi is a very special cat and its special nature is what like to me. I love this cat eight days a week.
